Michigan’s Oldest Short Track Gets Danley Upgrade

Owosso Speedway improves fan experience with Danley outdoor loudspeakers and amplifiers.

Owosso Speedway is Michigan’s oldest race track hosting races since the late 1930’s. In March, the Speedway invited fans for its 86th opening night race following renovations and major upgrades including a new sound system from Danley Sound Labs.

“Owosso Speedway strives to give fans of short track racing the same experience they would get at Daytona or Talladega or any major speedway on the NASCAR® circuit,” said Christopher Williams, IT director at Owosso Speedway Events and Activities. “The existing system was a hodgepodge of 70v horns and amplifiers that worked but sounded like the 30-plus-year-old PA that it is.”

“Danley Sound Labs works with venues of any shape or size,” said Jay Andrews, eastern regional sales manager for Danley Sound Labs. “Owosso Speedway needed to ensure that they could bring a ton of energy through their audio system while also clear, intelligible voice announcements when needed. Our product line provides all of the opportunities to do both.”

Following an in-person demonstration, the Owosso team chose Danley Sound Labs products. Williams worked directly Jay Andrews and Danley’s Sports Market Manager Harold Sexton to design the new system. Deisler Electric in Durand, Michigan installed the new system. The new system utilizes 7 Danley OS80 loudspeakers, 6 OS12CX loudspeakers, 2 OS15CX loudspeakers, 4 OS-PWR-2 outdoor amplifiers, and 1 DNA 20K4 Pro amplifier. 4 THMini15 Extreme Weather subwoofers are also being added to the system as upgrades continue.

“I was very impressed how hands-on the Danley team has been in demo’ing the product for us and they also came back to help us commission the new system,” said Williams. “Following the commissioning, they came back again to install upgrades which is something we didn’t expect but appreciated more than we can say.”

Williams went on to rave about the consensus from visitors stating that fans love the system and that they can now actually hear the announcement. In addition, utilizing the outdoor, pole-mounted OS-PWR-2 amplifiers made installation simple and it looks great.

“The whole process was simple,” said Williams. “Danley has earned a loyal customer in Owosso Speedway and we look forward to upcoming phases of our rebuilding project and working with the Danley team.”
