The Pennington School’s Pearl Family Stadium Receives New Audio Experience.

Founded in 1838, the Pennington School is one of the top boarding and day schools in New Jersey. After years of exposure to the weather, the School’s football stadium was in need of an audio upgrade. The existing system suffered from damaged loudspeakers and a lack of low frequency coverage.

“We were tasked with providing intelligible, full-range audio across the home bleachers and field along with additional audio equipment,” said Paul Dietrick, design engineer for Starlite in Moorestown, New Jersey. “We knew we wanted Danley Sound Labs products for their exceptional output, throw, and performance for the size. Their outdoor products also provide an attractive enclosure design.”

Dietrick and the Starlite team did an acoustic prediction analysis using Danley Direct software to choose the right loudspeakers for the project. They reached out to their partner and Danley authorized Sales Representatives, Lienau AV Associates and chose Danley OS80 loudspeakers and THMini15-EW subwoofers for the installation.

“The OS80 and THMini15-EW are the perfect combination for a variety of outdoor stadium and field applications,” said Jay Andrews, eastern regional sales manager at Danley Sound Labs. “The OS80 is built specifically for outdoor use and the THMini15-Extreme Weather variant protects the subwoofer from the elements.”

In the initial design, the loudspeakers and subwoofers would be mounted on locations on the press box. However, due to architectural concerns and to reduce sound levels in nearby neighborhoods, Starlite’s team had to get creative. The integration team fabricated custom loudspeaker mounting hardware to the existing poles on the home side bleachers.

“The system is fantastic,” said Ken Coakley, director of technology at the Pennington School. “We’re blown away by the sound quality and clarity of the speakers. We use the system in a variety of ways – voice announcements during emergency drills, in-game sports commentary, music, and we’ve even shown a movie out on the turf field. I don’t think we could be happier with the system, installation, or service provided by Starlite.”
