New Danley Sound System survives hurricane thanks to Extreme Weather loudspeakers and subwoofers.

Wakulla High School, located 20 miles south of Tallahassee, FL, was in desperate need of a new sound system. The existing system, two single horns found in between the goal posts on the far end of the stadium, had been in place for nearly 40 years.

“The speaker system was just archaic,” said Michael Smith, athletic director at Wakulla. “We had to do something different.”

“One of the biggest complaints regarding the existing system was that the visitor side just couldn’t hear anything,” said Daniel Hunt of JSC Systems. “They have a beautiful new turf field and tons of upgrades. My goal was to pick a box that incredible efficiency and could throw sound a far distance.”

JSC Systems selected the Danley Sound Labs OS80 outdoor loudspeaker along with the complementary TH115 subwoofer mounted on each side of the press box on the home side of the football field. Additionally, Danley GO2 loudspeakers were used as down fills. All loudspeakers and subwoofers are powered by a Danley 10K8 Pro amplifier.

“Deciding on the right outdoor sound system for a high school stadium or field can be difficult,” said Cooper Hedden, southeast regional sales manager at Danley Sound Labs. “As a designer, you’re looking for a system that provides the right amount of output in all the right places. Danley’s outdoor products are built exactly for that purpose and can be packaged together to create the ideal audio experience for any size stadium. We along with JSC designed a great system for Wakulla and I think they are incredibly happy with the experience in the stadium.”

“The new system has been unbelievable,” said Smith. “It’s given the stadium a greater since of professionalism and everyone can now hear what’s going on during the game.”

“Once we got the system tuned, the system wowed them,” said Hunt. “They stood on the other side of the visitor stands and could hear everything clearly.”

While the system has created an amazing audio experience for athletes, students, faculty, staff, and fans alike, just as impressive has been the equipment’s ability to withstand weather events.

“Danley is set apart from other manufacturers because we have a focus on creating high quality audio experiences, no matter the weather,” said Hedden. “Whether our OS line of loudspeakers or our extreme weather (EW) materials, we utilize many of the same high quality components we use on our indoor loudspeakers and subwoofers. However, we modify their encasings to ensure the weather doesn’t damage those components and create the same clear and quality sound we are known for.”

Following installation of Wakulla High School’s new Danley system in 2023, a category 1 hurricane passed through the area.

“Wakulla High is less than 5 miles from the Florida coast,” said Hunt. “There was a good deal of damage in the area following the hurricane and we were asked to come out and check the system. There was no damage at all. Danley’s ability to build audio equipment that can withstand that kind of weather is very impressive.”
